I think that a "reach"! But you may have more knowledge on the subject. If he had called them out by name..then they'd have a shot...but otherwise, no btw...Hillary is going to Rutgers and soothe their feathers...so all is not lost.

There are lawyers that would pursue the case for publicity even if they felt that there was little chance to win it. You can be sued for just about anything in America.

This case could be a bigger TV draw than the OJ trial. Maybe someone will sue and it goes to trial.

Maybe I'm taking it harder than others because (a) I hate Imus with a passion and (b) I have a degree from Rutgers University but his comments went way beyond distasteful. These girls are all pretty hardscrabble, no doubt, but they have represented the University well and had done something pretty special by reaching the championship game. Why take a potshot like that at a time these girls should be celebrating? He's a real *******, despite his phony charity claims of goodness.

LOL He probably does not know that the dope and booze killed him years ago. Either that or he's too mean to die. I'll bet old Imus will be on satellite radio before the sun rises. He'll pop up again somewhere. Maybe his brother Fred will get him a job with the radio station for which he has a minor dj gig.

I got no problem with Don Imus, sometimes he goes too far but you just have to take into context what he is saying and why, and yes I do understand he has certain social responsibilities for what he says. It seems like being straight, honest talk is not allowed anymore, we have turned into this flip flop culture where so many things gets filtered through and you wonder what gets lost in between.

A bad one, but who here hasn't told an off color joke?
Of course he doesn't, which is why I think the firing is a little over the top but I thought a 1 month suspension would have been justifiable.

As if this story needs another dumbass participant....What's up with the Governors of New Jersey and late night cruising? With the countless important issues facing a sitting governor, having to insert himself into the meeting between Imus and the Rutgers women's basketball team doesn't seem high on the state's 'to do' list. Now he should have a nice recouperative stretch of time to reconsider that important schedule of his.

They were going to get slapped in the pocket. Lost Proctor and Gamble, GM and more... its a money problem. These companies assessed that the public would backlash and they pulled the plug on the broadcasters. These companies have a duty to stockholders.

So in a very clear way, it appears the consumer has spoken.

Thats my take.

i just wonder if rainbow/push went to said sponsors, and 'encouraged' them to pull out....or else they may have been the ones boycotted. certainly seems to be common practice for that group.

Could have. Would not doubt that they did. Then it is up to companies to see if they take a hit. These are not small companies that pulled out. And they usually have pretty smart people to assess possible loss of revenue.

It may have been driven over the top. But bottom line is it very well could be bad for business. I dont think GM, Proctor and Gamble, etc... want to be viewed a certain way and lose income. And they lose income in this situation if the public reacts negatively and does not buy products. WE are the public.

If enough people/organizations would have contacted these companies and stated we will buy more of your products if you dont pull the ad bucks...

THis is my take.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in Corporate Headquarters. "Our stockholders would not appreciate...
