I think this is a pretty good deal for the Nets and I can't understand at all what's in it for Sacto. Thornton is 26 and needs a fresh start; the dude can seriously fill it up when he's right. Terry is 36 and Evans is 33. Neither was going to be a significant contributor this season. It's not as if they're expiring deals either. The coach must've just hated Thornton.

Can he rebound? Get to the foul line? Because those are the 2 things the Nets are missing most right now, IMO

Thornton is a great FT shooter. However he doesn't do virtually anything else but shoot. He doesn't commit a lot of turnovers because he doesn't mess around with passing.

Essentially he is like a 12500 turf sprinter than can only win on the lead. One trick pony.

Another good trade for the Warriors. Dangerous team. If Houston lands Rondo the west is in trouble.

Love and George putting on a show tonight. So many great players all over the NBA right now. There's at least 25 great players in the league right now.

I agree with you on Blake to Warriors. Of course now he will probably blow his knee out.

That's a decent analogy but in that case Terry and Evans were nickel claimers at Mountaineer.

They don't have a chance of beating teams with defense in the playoffs. Their only hope is to try to outscore you. Thornton put up 42 on the Pacers this season. And losing Evans is addition by subtraction.

They dont have a chance at beating anyone in the playoffs regardless. He also had 42 points the last 6 games in 187 minutes going 15-46 from the field, collecting 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and zero blocks. Thats close to the equivalent of four full games.

I get that Terry has been terrible and Evans does nothing but Marcus Thornton has been a bad, far below average player this year. The only reason that the Nets are getting a pass for taking on a guy like this is that they are the only team that contracts just dont matter and he can be dumped next season's trade dealine as an expiring contract.

If Marcus Thornton represents even a sliver of hope for Nets fans they are even further beaten down than Knicks fans.

PG1985 alert!
Cavs acquire Hawes for a couple 2nd rd picks. The race for the right to get blasted by Miami or Indiana heats up!

It's established he's had a bad season, but back form counts for something and he averaged nearly 19 PPG less than 2 years ago. He's also 26 and they gave up a 33 and 36-year-old. Everyone likes to bash the Nets for being old, then they get younger and people still criticize. And all they did was add roughly the same amount in tax that they shed in the Teague deal.

Pretty busy on the trade front so far today but no real big names or blockbusters...both Detroit and Portland need to do something before 3:00 for different reasons. Nice to see the Sixers have every pick in the 2nd round for this year's draft.

It isnt necessarily a bad deal as much as it is a no impact deal.

Thornton is a bad player plain and simple. Streaky shooters that do absolutely nothing else are rarely cogs on good teams. I mean the guy got 6 rebounds and 4 assists in his last 187 minutes. You could do that by accident.

Put it this way, if your team's options are so bad that you are playing Thornton rotation minutes you are probably doomed anyway. While there remains a flicker of hope than Thornton can produce something a team just traded for two corpses in order to get rid of him.

Truth is that all the trades made so far and most of the ones discussed are just good teams planning for cap space and bad teams shuffling the **** player deck.

It was a salary dump by Sacramento. They save 3 million off their payroll for next year which they need to resign Thomas and there werent any sane teams that want Thornton at 8 million a year.

When they drafted McLemore the need for Thornton expired. When they traded for Gay it really made him worthless on that roster. Only the Nets, who he will cost like 11 million next season when you add in luxury tax payments, could absorb a guy like him. Given that the Russian guy apparently doesnt give a **** about money he was worth a flyer to become a scorer off the bench.
