The Duet requires you to correctly select two of the three placegetters in any order and will only be available on races that have 8 runners or more.
The Duet will pay three Dividends for the following combinations:
· 1st and 2nd
· 1st and 3rd
· 2nd and 3rd
Smarter ways to take a Duet:
Single Duet – is a great way to take a Duet if you believe that you have two runners that will definitely finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a race.
Box Duet – is a good way to take a Duet if you like 3 or more runners in a race as it will cover all combinations of 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Standout Duet - is a bet where you combine the runner(s) you believe will finish in the first three placings (your standout(s)) with a number of runners to finish in the remaining placings. To win, your standout runner(s) must finish in the first, second or third position with any of your other runners filling at least one of the remaining positions. The cost of this standout Duet is $3 for a $1 investment, much cheaper than a 4 runner boxed Duet
However, for the best value why not place a FLEXI Duet bet which means you can box as many horses as you want and you can specify the total amount of money you wish to invest.

C. X. Wong mentions the bet in his "Precision" book. It is available in Hong Kong as well and that was the first I heard of it.
