DAY 1 HIPS TO WATCH

Hip 80, Miss Hollywood, bay filly, by Malibu Moon—Hollywood Story, by Wild Rush, consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.

This filly is out of the multiple Grade 1-winning Wild Rush mare Hollywood Story, who is the dam of one winner from two foals to race: multiple stakes-placed winner Hoorayforhollywood. Last year, a Smart Strike colt out of the dam brought $650,000 at the Keeneland September sale. The filly’s page also includes Group 1 winner Honey Nov, Grade/Group 2 winners Seattle Fitz and Fantastic Royale, and Grade/Group 3 winners Al Mundhir, Huggle Duggle, Fantastica Roma, and Splendid Celebre. She was bred in Kentucky by George Krikorian.

Hip 171, bay colt, by Sea The Stars—Love Me Only, by Sadler’s Wells, consigned by Lane’s End, agent.

Dam Love Me Only is out of multiple Grade 2 winner Mariah’s Storm, making her a half-sister to a pair of successful stallions – European Horse of the Year Giant’s Causeway and Group 2-placed Freud, who is a perennial leading sire in New York. Bred in Kentucky by Summer Wind Farm, this colt is the first foal out of his dam, and is also from the family of Group 2 winners You’resothrilling and Panoramic, as well as Group 3 winner Air Zion.

Hip No. 182, bay colt, by Indian Charlie—Macoumba, by Mr. Prospector, consigned by Select Sales, agent for Malibu Farm LLC.

A half-brother to top sire Malibu Moon, from the final crop of Indian Charlie. Group 1-winning dam Macoumba has produced six winners from nine foals to race, including multiple Grade 3-placed winner Positively as well as Parker’s Storm Cat, a prominent Washington-based sire. Her two yearlings to sell at public auction have brought an average price of $405,000, including a full sister to this colt, who brought $650,000 at last year’s Keeneland September sale. Bred in Kentucky by Malibu Farm, this colt’s page also includes Grade/Group 1 winners Maximova, Septieme Ciel, and Riviera, Group 2 winner Navratilovna, and Grade/Group 3 winners Worth Repeating, Temple City, Vilikaia and Maxigroom.

Hip No. 183, bay colt, by Malibu Moon—Madcap Escapade, by Hennessy, consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.

Two foals out of Grade 1-winning dam Madcap Escapade have sold as yearling at public auction for an average price of $950,000, led by California, who brought $1-million at the 2009 Keeneland September sale. Madcap Escapade is the dam of one winner from four foals to race: Grade 1 winner Mi Sueno. This colt was bred in Kentucky by Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings Inc. and W. Bruce Lunsford. His notable family members include Grade 1 winner Dubai Escapade and Grade 3-placed stakes winner Apalachee Special.

Hip No. 216, chestnut colt, by Giant’s Causeway—Mining My Own, by Smart Strike, consigned by Pauls Mill, agent.

From the mare that produced Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird and multiple Grade 1 winner Dullahan, as well as stakes winner Brother Bird. That group comprises dam Mining My Own’s three winners from four foals to race. A Tapit filly out of the dam brought $325,000 at the 2011 Keeneland September sale, prior to Dullahan’s emergence. This colt was bred in Kentucky by Phil and Judy Needham and Bena Halecky.

Not the best photos, but here are shots of hip 171 as a weanling and his dam (the regally-bred Love Me Only) that I took last October.

It's a dirt family Freddy. Not like Flaxman doesn't campaign plenty here. Don't know why they would pay $1.5MM and not start her off on the main track..

Cooper already was asked after signing ticket and stated she is headed to Europe.. If she was staying in US she wouldn't have been sold and you would be talking to Shug about her in 2015.

I don't get that really. Plenty of flashy grass-leaning filly pages to go for. Why take one that is so strong for main track?

GLENYE OAKFORD: Alberto Acosta & trainer Giuseppe Iadisernia take the filly for $1.35MM.. Will go to Northwest Stud at Nelson Jones Training Center in Ocala to prep.

Yuck, saying he must not've vetted well feels like a big understatement. Rachel Alexandra's full sister Samantha Nicole sold for $700,000 last year which sounds like a lot but she had a little sesamoiditis which put off some people. I think Barbara Banke would've gotten her whatever she went for, and there was Japanese interest despite her physical issues. Wonder how bad the Macoumba colt was for that to be the price? I mean, they had to know that was coming or there would've been a reserve. They were unloading this one. Hmm.

That Hollywood Story filly was ga-orgeous. Sometimes it's painful realizing, oh yeah, I'm not rich and I can't go buy myself a 7 figure yearling. This was one of those times.

Tiznow's a big hit too Monday. Candy Rides sold nicely. Street Sense's comeback story is pretty interesting with his return to U.S. for next year. Of first croppers, Eskendereya's, Blame's and Quality Road's got off to nice starts.

Very true...It's a market by every definition and nuance of the word. Let's see how the Dunkirk's, Street Boss's and other of such ilk sell in the coming days.
