Quote:
The thing about logic dictating in this process is that there are plenty of elements to these discussions where logic is belied. As Privman said on Loose on the Lead today when I asked him, every year is a free standing circumstance and since there is no set formula for "older horse" v. "turf horse", voter perception rules. Yes the older horse and turf horse and HOY can colide -- John Henry -- but when Kotashaan was HOY and grass champion, Bertrando was best older male. If Kotashaan was HOY, why wasn't he top older male too? My inclination is to reward everyone that was worthy and since there is a format available to acknowledge the best 'handicap' (dirt) elder -- Fort Larned -- the best 'traditional' grass horse -- Little Mike -- and the best horse overall for the year -- Wise Dan -- I chose to take advantage of it.

Wow, Questing beat My Miss Aurelia 106 to 102. What a squeaker.
Who did Pincay III say was his favorite older male horse to ride? My video got all tied up in knots right there and I missed it. |

Baffert had a pretty ridiculous year. One of his best in a long time.
In a sport where so much attention is put on the triple crown series and Breeders Cup ... I suppose if a trainer goes winless in both it costs them. For a lot of people, horse racing is nothing but the Triple Crown series and Breeders Cup. 29% wins and $1.84 ROI from more than 500 starters and it seemed like his horses were being annoyingly overbet all year long. When your ROI is half the takeout and everything you send out is getting hammered, that's pretty wild. Even with the BC and Triple Crown series flops, his win percentage in Graded Stakes was 26%. |

Thanks. I guess I meant Pincay II. Oops.
Both of 'em on stage threw me on the Roman numerals.Turns out Wise Dan knew he was gonna win HOY: http://twitter.yfrog.com/0fszyiituyvmmxlppvwzhvlsz I love how when she called to him, he just rushes right over to the door. Last edited by Merlinsky : 01-19-2013 at 11:52 PM. |
