Another problem is school president, AD, and other major people in the universities get treated like royality when the reach a BCS Bowl Game.
Why wouldn't they get $$$ if they make it to the playoffs? Those games would draw monster ratings. I think the royal treatment would be even higher for the teams to make the finals than it is for the BCS Title game. The only legit excuse I've heard is that it makes the regular season games less meaningful but I still disagree with that, there would be even more meaningful games because trying to crack the top 16 late in the year would become a big deal. Also, if you gave auto bids to the small conference winners you would be awarding the top two schools by giving them easy first round opponents so that would keep it meaningful to finish in the top two in the regular season.

Sniper you make good points. I think the football players deserve
some monetary gift from their schools and/or NCAA because the only way
their making this much money is from their football players, if they don't have the quality players they wouldn't be making big bucks. Look at the amount of money that some of these schools in the SEC and BIG TEN get each week from filling up 80,000 plus stadiums. Only reason their filling the stadiums is from their players and these players get nothing from it. Also exams have nothing to do with it. The have playoffs in DIV 1AA, DIV 2 & 3 that last a couples of weeks and it works perfectly fine.

Yes but you only have 4 teams still playing after the first week in December at those levels. That is fine but if D1 is down to 4 teams after December 3rd why not wait for New Years Day to start the final four? If you push everything back and make it so that 16 teams have interference with exams and that there are more weeks where the teams that advance do have a conflict then the problem gets worse. There is also significantly more time spent with the media at the D1 level that cuts into your study time.

That would be great if they have the final 4 around New Years
I think the ratings will be outstanding. I'm going to watch the Div 3 Football
selection show now even knowing that Ithaca Bombers wont make it after losing to Cortland St. in overtime in the Cortica Jug game and losing their playoffs hopes.

if Arkansas can beat LSU and Florida they would certainly deserve it
although, it's hard to imagine a team that got destroyed at home 14-50
in the championship game
I'd say top contenders are 1) Florida 2) USC 3) Rutgers and 4) why not Wisconsin (10-1) and only loss @ Michigan?
you could make a strong case for the loser of OSU-Mich
but what if the Buckeyes win by 7 in Columbus
and Michigan wins by 1 in AZ?
it would seem like a tie & a bit redundant
