and it would fill the gap. Players were pretty rusty in most of the bowl games.

Absolutely right. There is always some pretty piss poor football played in the bowl games. These players are used to a schedule for 13-14 weeks and all of the sudden they have a month+ off. Some handle it better than others, but I have to believe the games would be better without the layoff.
