Please, let's leave this one thread alone and not disrespect it.

Does the thread get its feelings hurt if it's disrespected? Come on. I never really understood that. It's like when people accuse others of "hating" on a horse online, as if that horse is logging into Derbytrail and reading that someone thinks he stinks.

No one and I mean no one wants to see any of these horses (or people) hurt or pass away. But it's a very unfortunate part of our game. Ganging up on Freddy for an obvious joke doesn't diminish what MMSC was trying to do with the thread. If anything it gave it a few more hits and makes it not so serious. Freddy jokes around a lot, but he obviously cares about horses. Some just think a little mix of humor helps. Especially in a thread as maudlin as this.

Random horses for random connections is a bit to obtuse for me. I wonder if people really think their kindness comes to the aid of someone who had a horse die.

The real question to be answered is how much therapy does Pletcher need with all the horses he kills in a year, its amazing he is able to carry on each day. He must have a great shrink!

I just wrote out this very long thing and was about to click submit but am not going to bother.

This is the line I really want to comment on.

So yeah... instead of saying anything at all about that first post of yours I just want to explain.

Random horses.

That is one of the main points... for them not to be random this one time. I don't know why that's so hard to understand or why, most years, someone has to have a big problem with it.

Of course it doesn't help their owners or anyone. It's not intended to. I'd have to be a horrible person to presume to think such a thing.

I'm just trying to show respect and thanks and lay it out for people who might not realize that this horse or that horse is gone and who might choose to remember them in some small way.

I'm sorry that that always seems to be offensive to someone. I will never understand that.

Oh and those of you who get it? Thank you. It's nice to read your memories and quotes and to know that some of you understand the point here.

Read much? Because if you did, you already knew the answer. But then, what would you have to say?

Perhaps not for everyone, but sometimes the most random horse can bring you the greatest thrills and fun at the track and no longer become random, but a horse and/or race that you will remember forever.

Thank you for including the links for various charities. When you think of the many hours a year that each of us spend enjoying this wonderful sport, I hope many find a way to give back. No matter how little.

I'll explain it to you. I'm insulted by your post and Freddy's post. Plain and simple. I have three horses happily grazing in my pasture as I write this. The day that something happens to any one of them I'll be crushed. It would be callus to make a joke about me losing one of my horses so why is this topic any different? Some of the connections of these horses are likely on this board.

This is a thread that allows those of us that care a chance to quietly reflect back on the horses we've lost over the past year. This might seem silly to some of you but it's not to a lot of us.

You're insulted by my post? Really?

All I was saying is Freddy is kidding, so overreacting isn't necessary. No one is taking away your chance to remember horses. Again, I'm sure none of us ever want to see horses injured. But spare me the faux outrage at a simple joke.

Frankly I'm insulted by your suggestion I don't care. Posting a quote doesn't mean you care anymore than anyone else. To think it does is pretty arrogant.

Freddy's posts are just for attention.. but Hossy didnt post anything wrong. Hossy bets on the horses every day it seems like, of course he cares about their well being. Nobody can follow the sport as much as he does and not care when a horse goes down.

If I may...

He's of the colour of the nutmeg. And of the heat of the ginger.... he is pure air and fire; and the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him, but only in patient stillness while his rider mounts him; he is indeed a horse, and all other jades you may call beasts. ~William Shakespeare, Henry V

ganging up on freddy? gpk said oh boy, i asked why did he bother when he knew what the thread was...that's ganging up? and i guess i just didn't see that obvious joke. i thought it was just freddy being freddy like he is with threads like these-which is why i asked him why come to this one.

Freddy's a big boy, he can handle it. He makes those types of posts for the attention.

Since you assumed it was just Freddy being Freddy, why ask him at all and make the cynicism remark?

You didn't think him asking if there was going to be a thread for sea scallops was an obvious joke? Really?

Maybe in the addendum someone should include this boards sense of humor.

i guess because i don't get why someone has to exhibit their 'sense of humor' on any thread involving lost horses, or when someone posts something in that vein? but from now on i'll be sure to remember he's just trying to keep things light.

And I don't get why someone would take such great offense to an innocent joke on a message board. People makes jokes in lots of threads around here. Jokes about people getting hurt, people dying, etc. Why is this thread any different?
