I tossed Game On Dude completely thinking the pace would be stronger with Mo pressing the horse along. Game on Dude ran well... but you're right...

This Breeders' Cup was fun as always - betting opportunities, some stars and some excitement.... but we are definitely in a funk right now in terms of quality horse flesh. I think back just five or so years ago when Invasor ran down Bernardini... those would have ate yesterday's field for lunch. Ghostzapper might have looked like Secretariat.

And not to mention... Afleet Again is now a Breeders' Cup winner.

I'm all for honest horses that show up every dance, year in and year out, but when horses like Afleet Again, Court Vision, and Drosselmeyer are winning these races, it's time to remove the "World Thoroughbred Championships" pretense from the Breeder's Cup name.

Thank God Tres Borrachos didn't win the Dirt Mile.

But yes the BC needs to market this thing differently now, its really ridiculous to call this the World Thoroughbred Championships or make it seem to be the end all be all of races. World Racing Carnival would seem a better fit, but only people oustide of America would call it a racing carnival..haha

I'm in favoring of eliminating it all together. However, as a compromise, I think that having two Breeder's Cups per year would be a decent idea. Have one in April at Santa Anita where races like the Big Cap and San Juan Capistrano are incorporated. Have the other in October at Belmont where the JCGC and Joe Hirsch are used.

It's great fun, its great to bet, the harm it has done to the sport is immeasurable at this point I wish we could go back in time but we can't, we are stuck with the 3000 lb gorilla that we love to come watch once a year but hate to feed 364.
