I think GE is the devil, but what bothers me about the media turning GE and the choice of Immelt into the scandal du jour is that it lets the media avoid talking about the bigger issue, which is that LOTS of corporations don't pay anywhere near what they are supposed to in taxes. Make GE the Big Bad, eventually Immelt resigns and then things continue to roll along as they do now, with the GOP calling Big Business "job creators" and saying all they need is another tax cut and prosperity will come roaring back. It's all a big "look at the monkey!" distraction.
