Baffert's starter Wegner just got brow beat in the Robert Lewis (he couldn't even get past Tapizar). Being by Dynaformer, he seems destined for turf anyways. Which leads us to Mr. Commons. By Artie Schiller out of an Apalachee mare (about as much turf as you can shoe-horn into a pedigree), there was probably a reason why John Shirreffs opted to move him to the lawn after tanking in his debut on the main track. Tomorrow at Santa Anita, there's a money allowance for straight 3yos going down-the-hill. While obviously he's a first condition horse, the race tomorrow is made up of unheralded horses and Euro imports. He would have a huge advantage with a win over the course and distance (not to mention the impressive manner with which he won). This might be a worse move than Richard Mandella starting the talented turf colt Ten Devils in the Robert Lewis (he, too, couldn't beat Tapizar). Of course, Shirreffs didn't look too bright, either, when tossing Harmonious in the La Canada on the main track, though I was chalking that one up to owner Martin Wygod. |

![]() There was something about injecting one of Jaycito's ankles that got the horse pulled from Mitchell (per that DRF story). Maybe that is acting up again.

I would like to see Anthony's Cross in the San Felipe as he has question marks, yet seems to have some promise. However, resting on the laurels of a maiden win at CD months ago and a gut buster with probable Derby filler Riveting Reason, I won't endorse him. |

![]() I forgot about that - and it's an N1X or N2L race - good point. He should be in there.
