Susan said the track today was the worst it has been. Last week the track was in pretty good shape in the morning but as the temps warmed up the track came apart as it thawed. The fact that there has been no break in the weather with yet another storm coming in tonight has made it difficult to repair.

Did you happen to read the CEO from Penn Nat's comments on racing? Now what?

This is news? He didn't say anything much different than Evans said to his shareholders either. When they ask to slash takeout in an attempt to make PM wagering more profitable that when you have to worry. Not that it isnt a good idea but that will be the first step in eliminating the tracks because they wont do it right or give it a real chance.

Did you miss "not that this isnt a good idea"? Of course it should be decreased but what I am saying is that they will decrease takeout and use it as "evidence" that lowering takeout doesn't work. If you lower takeout at a track like Penn sure the handle will go up. It may double. But it will likely never get high enough for them to make enough money on the racing end to not want to get rid of the headache. They will say that yes decreasing the takeout did increase handle but not enough to allow racing to be "self sustaining".

Thanks Chuck. With all the time missed for training so far at Pha...approximately how long would it take a horse to get back it's fitness and be ready to run again? What would be a reasonable target for a horse's next race...assuming they close this week and start back up next week.

I figure if the track is opened next week...live racing will most likely take place. How many horses based at Philly would actually be ready to race?

What makes you think Juan carlos's horses ever go to the track in between starts?

Haha...I'd love to know what they do leading up to a race.

We have trained everyday since last Wednesday and did this morning as well so we haven't missed too much training, yet. Obviously each horse has different requirements depending on age, soundness, current fitness, etc. It is really hard to say exactly how much fitness you will lose or how long it will take to get back to an optimum level. Since 90% of the horses running at Philly are stabled there pretty much everyone is in the same boat. In fact some of the older lower level horses will probably benefit from not training so much.

I saw the track was open a few days and workouts were published but I didn't realize it had been open for training since last Wednesday. Thanks for the info.
