Default No surprise....Pegasus Wind to BC Juvy

I guess we know who the pacesetter will be.....

For a trainer that has dominated the Breeders' Cup World Championships like no other in the 23-year history of the event, this year's Breeders' Cup at Churchill Downs looms as a fairly quiet day for the racing Hall of Famer.
But Lukas could make considerable noise in the one race in which he is likely to saddle a contender. Lukas said on Monday that he would shoot for his 19th Breeders' Cup victory in the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (GI) with Robert Baker and William Mack's Pegasus Wind. A victory by the son of 2000 Kentucky Derby winner Fusiachi Pegasus, who finished a close third behind Scat Daddy and Nobiz Like Shobiz in Saturday's Champagne (GI) at Belmont Park, would be Lukas's sixth in the Juvenile.
Although he has only a maiden win in four career races, Lukas has always offered a glowing assessment of Pegasus Wind's ability and the colt's Champagne effort did nothing to diminish his trainer's enthusiasm. Pegasus Wind set the early pace and held strongly in the stretch under jockey Mike Luzzi to be beaten by just 1 ¼-lenghts.
"I liked it, especially considering that he had never been over that racetrack and both the horses that beat him have trained there all year," said Lukas. "I thought it wasn't to his best advantage to ship in and hit that bunch."
Lukas was so high on Pegasus Wind's ability that the colt made his debut in the Bashford Manor Stakes (GIII) at Churchill Downs, where he finished fifth to eventual Hopeful (GI) winner Circular Quay. He followed that effort with a seven-length romp in a maiden race at Saratoga, then finished fourth to Circular Quay in the Hopeful.
Pegasus Wind, who was bred by a partnership that includes Hall of Fame jockey Steve Cauthen and former Turfway Park President Mark Simendinger, was dismissed at odds of 21-1 in the Champagne. Longtime Lukas-watchers would advise racing fans not to make the same mistake on Nov. 4 at Churchill Downs.
"I think I've got 'em right where I want 'em," said a smiling Lukas.
With his third-place finish in the Champagne, Pegasus Wind improved his record to 1-0-1 in four races with earnings of $85,545. Luzzi is schedule to ride Pegasus Wind in the Juvenile.
Lukas' previous Breeders' Cup Juvenile champions include two winners at Churchill Downs: Is It True, who upset the mighty Easy Goer in 1988, and Timber Country, who won in 1994. His other Juvenile winners were Capote ('86), Success Express ('87), and Boston Harbor ('96).

....I always love Lukas' rationale.....classic stuff

Well I never know what he is going to do and why, but it has worked for him over the years. Remember Cat Thief in the Classic and Spain the Distaff---he cannot be dismissed and you cannot bet him. Uugghhh.....I hope the Male Juve is not part of the pick 6.

Joel he ran quite well.
He stayed on down the lane pretty well even after hooked.
I have to say that I believe that Scat was absolutely trained with the Champagen in mind, not the Cup. It was their best chance ever to win a grade one, and I'm sure he was trained all the way to win this one.
I'm not saying the other trainers didn't wanna win it, but Nobiz was only making his 2nd start, and Pegasus may not have been wound all the way up.
It oughta be a moot point anyway when CQ starts his run to the lead.

Pegasus Wind has actually been one of the LUkas runners that actually run, and dont give it up and back up to last. I had him in pk4 and 3, had it all his own way. Dont see how he can move up from that performance with the best of his crop as of now in the BCJ.

A very nice colt> I think this is a juvi Perfect Drift. Always there just not a winner aginst the best.I dont think anyone could complain if he experiences the same success.

Im going to agree with Oracle. And its hard to discount a stakes-quality two year in the BC races. Every few years there's a big surprise... Anees, Wilko...

Yeah, but they had the style....the only way Pegasus Wind can win it is if they let him just walk on an easy lead, but they tried to hand it to him in the champagne and he still wasn't good enough to close the deal......plus, he's a 6-7 panel animal and not a two-turn animal...I firmly believe that....
