Not really - there have been a whole lot worse who got a whole lot more hype.

Neil Howard was his trainer for crying out loud - Neil Howard.

I heard he was the best horse since Spectacular Bid.

Maybe on Thoro-Graph figures - for about six weeks...until the first of about 38 horses to surpass his all-time record figure came along.

He's been a heckuva lot better than Ghostzapper in the shed, that's for sure.

It was tongue in cheek, a member of this forum has espoused the theory that Mineshaft was the best horse since the Bid and I was breaking his balls a bit.

If only the four or five best handicap horses of 2003 could have gotten in the gate together at some point it would have been interesting. Medaglia d'Oro had a good year and was walloped by Candy Ride, so those three would have certainly made for an interesting race along with Pleasantly Perfect and Dynever of course.

You can't compare a 4th crop sire to a 2nd crop sire. That being said, GZ has been horrendous, even if his production of GI winners matches Mineshaft.

Congaree was awesome that year - and Perfect Drift was a total beast as well. If Perfect Drift had any trainer other than Murray Johnson - he probably would have been the best horse since Bid. PD kept running monster races that year for a trainer who was like 4-for-100 and would claim a horse and watch it sink like a rock to the bottom.

He's been out of the training game for a while. If he ever makes a comeback - it should be at River Downs.

I can do whatever I want. And Dirtnappers G1 is synthetic I believe so it doesn't count.
