Looked as if he rode the race like he thought the inside was not the place to be on the grass course. Johnston even noted something to the effect that he has frequently been wide on the grass throughout the meet.

I've noticed he isn't the only one riding that way...at least this weekend. Not sure if the inside is deep or something but a few jocks have been avoiding it.

Mott was probably taking a shot to see if he handled the dirt before taking him to Florida and running him on the dirt. Hard to get an older MSW on turf for him at Aqueduct.
