RAISON D’ETAT (A.P. Indy) is the first foal to race from seven-time GISW Sightseek (Distant View), who earned $2,445,216 and excelled at a route of ground. While this colt has the genes to be any sort, conditioner Bill Mott rarely has his runners ready for their best first out, and has only won with one of 23 debuting juveniles in dirt routes over the past five seasons according to DRF Formulator. Raison d’Etat is coupled with fellow Juddmonte homebred Heat Shield (Distorted Humor), a second timer out of MGSW & GISP True Flare (Capote), making him a half-brother to GISW Latent Heat (Maria’s Mon), GSW Indian Flare (Cherokee Run) and GSW in the U.S. and France Art Master (Royal Academy). Ramon Dominguez is named on both runners, however, and Heat Shield will likely scratch to run on Sunday. Darley firster Buffum (Bernardini) brought $1.2m as yearling at FTSAUG, which was the second highest price paid for a Bernardini yearling last year. The son of MSW Storm Beauty (Storm Cat) is a half to MSW & GSP Stormy West (Gone West), who earned $367,153. Empiricist (Empire Maker), a $350,000 FTSAUG buy, is set to make his unveiling for Jimmy Toner. He is out of the GISW dam La Gueriere (Lord at War {Arg}), who also produced MGSW & MGISP Lasting Approval (With Approval) and Icon Project (Empire Maker), the smashing winner of last year’s GI Personal Ensign S. Empiricist is also a half to the unraced La Comete (Holy Bull), dam of MGSW & MGISP Munnings (Speightstown). Uncle Carm (Bluegrass Cat) makes his follow-up start after debuting to be sixth in a sprint here Sept. 25. The 3/4-brother to Leah’s Secret (Tiger Ridge), MGSW, $1,158,805 suffered from a tardy beginning first out and adds blinkers this time. According to DRF Formulator, trainer John Terranova is winless from 12 attempts to add the hood with second timers over the past five seasons.

BERNARDETTE (A.P. Indy) is out of the Cara Rafaela (Quiet American), a Grade I winner who was named 2006 Broodmare of the Year off the accomplishments of Bernadette’s full-brother Bernardini, the MGISW champion who has had an excellent freshman year at stud. Tom Albertrani also conditioned Bernardini, who broke his maiden emphatically by 7 3/4 lengths when stretched out from six to eight furlongs in start number two before reeling off five more consecutive victories. Interestingly, Albertrani also sends out Gharbiah (Bernardini) for her first go for Rabbah Bloodstock. The $300,000 FTSAUG yearling is a half to accomplished turf mare Honey Ryder (Lasting Approval), MGISW, $2,279,199.
Should I be betting out on someone to increase the Cup Bankroll, or not?

Are you capable of resisting betting the half to Icon Project? Supposedly he can run, but I'm not crazy about him first out. The only one I'd consider betting is the Terranova, despite the probably circumstantial stat.

Im really not at all. Icon Project is the most brillant gal I have witnessed the past 3 years. Her Toga win was awesome, and she beat some girls who can actually run.

Buffum won after making a very strong middle move, just holding off the 2nd place finisher.

Royal Delta's female family is almost all turf, but for anyone considering Biondetti at all in the Breeder's Cup, he's a 3/4 sister to the dam of this filly, Delta Princess, so the family can handle dirt apparently.

She was very impressive - although the fractions were much slower than in the male division.

It's not like she was on the lead, though. And she had trouble. The boys went faster, and those two might be pretty ok too. For a Mott to win first out like that is a big deal. . . only problem I have is that the last one he had who debuted like that came back to lose and hasn't been heard from since.

I may be a point off, but looks like 95 for the colts and an 89 for the filly.
