Why shouldn't he go if he's healthy ? He's a 3 year, winning graded stakes, and eligible to improve .

PP will lose that race by probably 20, no matter who rides.

It would sound more believable if you said that you dreamed this.

Default No BC Classic for Pleasant Prince..

Seems Ken Ramsey didn't know Pleasant Prince wasn't Breeders' Cup nominated... $450,000 to get into the Classic as a supplement.

"It just doesn't make economic sense," Ramsey said.

I'm sure he's speaking from the Breeders Cup standpoint.

His accountant called, said he needs the money to actually pay his bills!

They sell junk or provide services to even dumber people. For example, see Snuggies.

Winning Graded Stakes HAHA. PP wins the OK Derby and is going to the BC Classic, supposedly a race where the best horses in the World at the time are going. U wanna know where the 2nd and 3rd place horses are going? ZIA PARK

My point is I could understand if he ran against better competition and won but since the KY Derby the only race against good 3 yr olds was when he ran 11th in the Preakness.

As it stands now the field looks like this

Zenyatta
Quality Rd
Blame
Rail Trip
Lookin at Lucky
Richard's Kid
Epsoir City
Fly Down
Haynesfield
First Dude
Awesome Gem
Pleasant Prince
Gitano Hernando-Possible
Musket Man-Possible
Etched-Possible
Morning Line-Possible
Byword-Possible

In terms of who gets in the BC fields, is it a mix of looking at 1st preference v. 2nd preference for cross-entered horses, and then the BC selection committee (or whatever they're called) ranks them with an also eligibles list for overflow fields? Do any other fields have overflow potential, and is there anybody on the outside looking in with respect to BC eligibility this year?

Here's a list of BC Challenge winners: http://www.breederscup.com/challenge.aspx Some of them are out, and I'm sure others might not go to the BC race they got the 'win and you're in' for, but nevertheless there are guaranteed spots out there to be claimed. What's going on with Gran Estreno? They misspelled his name on the BC page. Technically he's in, but was he ever pointing to it? He won at 2000m at age 3 in a G1 in Argentina and is back to back in the Washington Park H. (G2).

The pace in the Classic figures to get quick if the expected field stays in tact. The closers in the race outside of the obvious (Z, Lookin at Lucky and Blame) are fairly even... Pleasant Prince, at 50-1, could chunk-up for 4th at 50-1.

Without doing a full handicap of the race, would you rather bet PP at 50-1 as a closer, or say a First Dude at 20-1 on the pace the whole way? I don't think First Dude can out-run horses like Quality Road, and stick around like he has against a weak crop this year... at least Pleasant Prince will do his running after most are toast.

FROM BC WEBSITE
A maximum of 14 starters are allowed in each of the 14 Breeders' Cup Championships races. Breeders' Cup Limited has adopted a field selection system to select runners in the event fields are oversubscribed. This system ranks horses in order of preference based upon (i) performance in Breeders' Cup Challenge Races, (ii) a point system, and (iii) the judgment of a panel of racing experts. The field selection system will be implemented as necessary following the taking of pre-entries on October 25, 2010, to officially rank the oversubscribed fields. The Racing Directors/Secretaries Panel (the "Panel") will rank all the horses pre-entered in the oversubscribed races as described below. After pre-entry, any vacancies in the fields will be filled by horses in order of panel preference.

So it goes #1 Horses who won Win and U are in races #2 Breeders Cup Points Standings #3 Panel picks who they want. Oct 25 they will rank them and when someone withdraws the horses move up until the 14 are drawn. So Gran Estreno is officially Ranked #1 in the Classic till he withdraws

Almost all the races on the 6th could have overflow. The Turf Sprint,Juvy Turf and the Dirt Mile might be the only ones that don't,even tho the Dirt Mile could get 1 or 2 who are left out of the Sprint.

Classic-18
Turf-14(Could be more if Cape Blanco and Gitano dont run the Classic)
Sprint-17
Juvy-90 Honestly every horse that hits the board is mentioned it seems
Turf Mile-18(Counting 2 that qualifed but prolly wont go)
Dirt Mile-11(But count could rise with horses who miss Sprint or Classic)
