You are kidding right? Look, his horse has no chance to win the Classic. However, rather than ducking horses, he nearly ran the horse into the ground trying to make the derby. If I remember correctly, he ran in the Fountain of Youth, the Florida Derby,. the Blue Grass, and then the Derby Trial and just missed on graded earnings. He then came back in the Preakness and thankfully passed the Belmont.
As badly managed as he was up to this point, Pleasant Prince has been very well handled since then. There are lots of rich Derbys out there where an average horse can earn serious money. It would be crazy not to go after the low hanging fruit. Other than the classic winners, Pleasant Prince has probably earned more than any other three year old this year while having far less talent. Seems like a good plan to me. Is the Classic too deep. Certainly. Can he win? No. But, could he clunk up for 4th or 5th and pick up another decent check? Very possible. Paul |

I am just saying the level of competition,he got destroyed in the Preakness and the Classic is ALOT stronger than that.
It is a great plan to earn money-just saying why does he deserve a spot in the Classic? Like First Dude I can understand, but come on Pleasant Prince |

First Dude has only won 1 race if I am not mistaken. Granted he has scored loads of $ picking spots but at least PP is winning races now.

An arguement could be made that First Dude would have won the last three races Pleasant prince ran in. Considering he doesn't like to win much, maybe not, but he seems better than PP.

Will there even be enough room? I heard Espoir City (JPN) is still planning to ship over here for the Classic. Never run at 1 1/4 and just lost a race at 1 mile. He's by a son of Sunday Silence named Gold Allure out of a Brian's Time mare. The connections seemed to think he was in need of the race, or that's what I gathered when they called him fat.
Does Calvin Borel even have a horse pointing for the BCC? Rachel and Super Saver are gone, Mine That Bird appears to have one more chance to get his act together or retirement's a real possibility so I'm not sure they'd throw him in there. |

MTB is pointed to the BC Mile
Epsoir City is still pointed to the BC Classic, like u said they just wanted to get him a prep since he didnt run since like April or May There should be 2 spots remaining maybe 3 if Musket Man doesnt go(Was suppose to go if won but lost by a head) Well First Dude at least hits the board in Grade 1 Races,PP ran once after the Derby and it was an 11th. I could understand if it was like a Morning Line situation if PP won the Penn Derby or even the Super Derby(over a better field) but come on the Ohio and OK Derby?? |

I won't be totally shocked if First Dude hit the board. I get the impression that he just doesn't know how to win and loses focus during the race. The way he goes fast, fades, and re-rallies tells me there is more inside this one if they can figure him out. As it is, he may just end up being Perfect Drift, albeit with better handlers and a cooler name.

Is there any pace scenario with the likely participants that would aid PP's style? Is the owner a Kentucky guy with a huge ego that wants a runner in the race regardless of the chances for success? How do you view success? Is a fourth or fifth place check in the classic to be viewed as "successful"? Regardless of whether or not they are delusional, the connections have been very public since the spring about how high they are on this horse. |
