![]() Sad as it is to say ... The Whitney field is without question by far the best field assembled for a horse race so far this year.

![]() Looking forward to the Honorable Miss Hdcp. Not for the contestants, but for the mare the race was named after.
She was a fun mare to watch in action. She raced against the boys before Winning Colors and Genuine Risk did. Typically, 10-15 lengths back during the early call of a 6 or 7 furlong sprint --- she would close like a freight train - - I think she carried 130 lbs or more on at least two occasions. I have color slides of her at Belmont Park in 1975 or 1976 (if only I could find them). I think Shoemaker rode her that day One of my favorites trained by the great Frank Whiteley.... |

![]() The Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville, the Missile at Randwick, (Buttercup in) the Test, Messieurs QR and Blame and Ms. Zenyatta of course and last but certainly not least Woodbine R7 (shut up, I love Santana Strings even if he never wins. Huge fan. Leave me alone.).
Best name for a race is the 16:50 at Worcester (well it's actually on Friday, but still...) The Pershore Plum Festival Land O' Plums Handicap Chase. ![]() |

![]() Agree with the Whitney, but I love a good sprint and the Vanderbilt is interesting.
