Posted 3/11/2010, 5:21 pm Rosario changes agents By Steve Andersen Jockey Joel Rosario, who won three riding titles in Southern California in 2009, has switched agents, replacing Vic Stauffer with Ron Ebanks, the agents said on Thursday. The change takes effect immediately, Ebanks said. Through Wednesday, Rosario was second in the Santa Anita standings with 42 wins, trailing leader Rafael Bejarano by 19 victories. Last year, Rosario won riding titles at the Hollywood Park spring-summer and fall meetings and at Del Mar. Stauffer, who will continue to represent Martin Garcia, said he was "very surprised" by Rosario's decision. "He said he could do better with someone else," Stauffer said. Ebanks will no longer represent cousins Michael Baze and Tyler Baze. Michael Baze is in the process of relocating to the Chicago circuit, Ebanks said on Thursday. Tyler Baze has not chosen another agent, Ebanks said. Ebanks said he and Rosario had talked of working together "a few years ago" but nothing came of it at the time. "He was interested in me and I was interested in him, but it wasn't the right timing," Ebanks said. They spoke about the matter on Wednesday, when Ebanks agreed to represent the 25-year old Rosario.

I have no idea how any agent could be surprised what these riders do....surprised no one got a quote from Tyler Baze who was dropped like a bad habit.

First off, it says that Michael Baze was relocating to Chicago. OMG, that is far from good for me.
2nd off, I heard about a month ago that Rosario was having problems with his weight and his time was limited. 3rd off, how stupid is Joel Rosario. Say what you want about Stauffer, but Rosario has absolutely exploded since Vic got his book. Pre-book, he was another name out there, now he is top three guy. Why break something that isn't close to being a problem.

He really said he could do better with somebody else? Guess lil Garcia winning the biggest race of the meet had no impact whatsoever on this decision? Vic, I thought ya did a great job for him. Talented people get pretty weird sometimes. Having 2 jocks is just problematic. If you didn't have Marty, and, 2 weeks ago, Baffert offered you the mount on Misremembered...What would you've done? I mean, just saying. That's proly what's going on in J's head.

While he won a lot with Stauffer, he was not just another name. He was already winning races when Vic took over. He will continue to win a ton of races out there no matter who his agent is. That jock colony has deteriorated over the years and he picked up momentum. Gomez and Bejarano were always strong...but Pval went postal, Solis can't ride anymore, Nakatani continued to piss everyone off and left, Tyler Baze had his problems, Vic Espinoza is ok I guess. After that there isn't much so Rosario picked up the pieces. Vic obviously was getting him great mounts and doing that part of the job well.....but one doesn't have to look to far to see what might have drove Rosario away.
