As mighty as Todd Pletcher is, it seemed more than a stretch to run that colt (a half to speedy Forest Camp) in the Southwest against Graded stakes types while shipping and stretching out for the first time after a gut-busting losing effort in an 6f allowance race off a layoff.

He's a candidate to go backwards rather than forwards, IMO.

I listened to the show just now.

I agree with Baffert in that he won better than most people seemed to think, but man, are they really still considering Dubai?

I was hoping they'd give that up after the Southwest.

Gotta think Zabeel Racing bought him with Dubai in mind, just like Richard's Kid.

Yeah, I'm pretty obvious.

At least I'm not as ridiculous as that Giants Causeway fan that posts here.

Gary Stevens just reported on HRTV that Baffert is leaning towards the Sunland Park Derby with Conveyance.

Maybe they're hedging their bets on the possible distance limitations by taking on Grade 3 rivals instead of the top Derby contenders.

The $800,000 purse doesn't hurt either.

That's a pretty strong argument, too.

I almost forgot I was a jaded cynic: What about appearance fees?

I realize he's not a big time horse just yet, but could Sunland have, in an effort to keep their race "rolling" as a major Derby prep (and maintain the Graded status), forked over some dough to get a contender to line up?
