Hcp 16000s is the way it will show up in the PPs.

Yep they still run the Grey Ghost Starter at the Meadowlands.

They used to have the same race at Calder on Extreme Day and called it the Gray Pride race

I believe the Arromanches S. is coming up . That is restricted to greys as well .

Note edit: This race is the Arromanches. A tribute to the beloved NY grey .

Default unbridled danger..

I have been following this horse (thankfully not betting on him) since Contessa had him a few years ago. He is interesting because he runs for a trainer that only has him as his only horse. Together they have been able to "pay the rent" running over his head and collecting the (larger) small prizes at this condition. I follow just to see if and when this horse might drop to an appropriate level..Seems to be the quintessential "hobby horse"?

Maybe they wrote the race just to help him out. If so - it was nice of them looking out for a little guy and that makes it a slightly less silly idea.

Perhaps they can write a race restricted to horses foaled in the state of NY who are also inelidgible to ever be NY Breds. I'll take Freddy Mo in a walkover.

I was going to mention that Calder plowed this field long ago.

I guess I can sort of see doing it on something called extreme day - or doing it on Thanksgiving night like the Meadowlands ... today seemed like an odd time to run a White Power Starter Alw race.

I have a program from May 19th, 1956. Ascot Park, between Akron and Cleveland, closed in 1966 when purchased by Eddie DeBartolo.

May 19th was the running of the "Ascot Gold Cup Handicap" at two miles.

The program has an ad for:

NEXT SATURDAY

Final Day of the 1956 Meeting

Gray Ghost Handicap

$3,000.....SIX and 1/2 FURLONGS

For Gray and Roan Horses

An aside,

James Clemens, Norman Hart and Gail Parker were neck and neck for the meet riding title on that day.

P. Maxwell was by far the leading trainer, with H. Jolley a distant 3rd.

And a further aside, the guy who had this program had 3 tickets on the daily double at $63.20 for a nice $189.60 1956 dollar score. I bought the program on eBay.

Thanks for posting. Now it would be harder to find the 2 mile race over the gray and roan race.
