i think what killed me on birdstone was the race he was in on the sealed track...he looked godawful. his travers was decent. but he was nowhere near mr jones talent-wise...he just happened to be in the right place at the right time, and had a jock with sense enough to ride that race the right way while everyone gang-tackled smarty.

that was a horrible race.
was at Turfway back when they had real dirt.
it was won by some horrible horse like Sinister G or something.
i think I see him running in claiming races at Aqueduct now.

yeah, Zito used the sealed track as an excuse, and maybe it was a legitimate one, but it was a terrible effort by Birdstone.

birdstone was head and shoulders, or thought to be so, above that field...he looked horrible that day. sealed track...as good an excuse as any i guess. not as bad as when mike smith tried to say he thought giacomo entrapped in the preakness....not so mr. smith!
