Exactly.....I forgot to mention that.

On sand, I guess you slide a little so the impact is different.

As I told a jock agent today, I am 6 foot and 250lbs, I won't be going 35MPH on a horse anytime soon, so those guys can do what they feel is right

That's what makes it safer for the horses, unfortunately - it attenuates the slide at the hoof/track interface.
