I dont know Scuds...is that fair? How can you definitively say what one's motivations are for choosing a particular career? Isnt that a personal thing? Wouldnt that vary from individual to individual?

i can think of lot easier ways to achieve power, money, prestige and exclusivity. Remember-undergrad, med school, residency, blah, blah blah...thats a lot of school and a lot of work.

Why wouldnt they just go trade bonds?

I just don't think very many are doing it for the satisfaction of helping sick people. As far as banking goes, I don't remember that as one of the main professions that kids are told "the brightest" go into.

you didnt say anything about bright. You said "power, money, prestige, exclusivity".

If a person were looking for those things and didnt care about helping people, why would they want to be a doctor? All that school and all that work.

I can think of a bunch of careers off the top of my head where they could get all of the things you are talking about (power, money, prestige, exclusivity) and it wouldnt cost them 12 years and a quarter million dollars in student loans.

I said "etc." To me, it's the same as prestige. A lot of smart people go into this profession because it's considered a smart people's profession.

You're right. They'd become a politician ie a Bush, a Kennedy etc.
