this is just a cat and mouse game steve , let's see what obama and hillary give up when these 2 are released. They are not in one of the N Korean torture camps, they are in a safe house and they were even allowed to make a call!

I think these two knew the risk of being caught on the wrong side of the line kind of the same way 'mules' know the risk of smuggling drugs from say Columbia. The sentence was stiff but the arrests seem legit. It's not like they ran out of gas and wandered across the border looking for a station? Or were kidnapped and brought into the country. They did the crime now let em do the time. Call Kim's hand this time.

Damn you guys are tough. I hope the two girls get released. Supposedly, they had no intention to go to North Korea. Del, I think its wrong to compare the girls to drug smugglers, and you are making assumptions like they are fact.

We should all hope that these girls are released. 12 years in a prison camp is a long time.

Not sure what your getting at with this thread, but I doubt Obama is going to give up our nuclear secrets or anything like that to North Korea.

i know not the secrets , but , surely you know that there will be some concession from DC to get them out , surely you don't think Kim Jong is just going to release them with no strings - it maybe something as simple as more food aid for his country

wow...Advocating and supporting arrests of journalists..possible in a very suspect manner...advocating a trial where no press is allowed and advocating a 12 year sentence in a labor camp for probably being dragged across a border by ambitious secirity guards. I never knew North Korea had so many fans.

surely you know that they are not going to go to a labor camp for 12 yrs .....
they are in a safe house and have been allowed to call home ... as soon as Obama gives Kim something they are out and then something similar will happen again and again for the next 8 oops 4 yrs

well they were doing a story on girls sold into the sex trade which is sickening but I'm confident N. Korea was a target. They weren't 2 college girls on spring break looking for cute Korean boys. I believe they knew exactly where they were and crossed on purpose to get a story.

So they deserve 12 years in a prison camp for being journalists? You think the punishment is justified even if your theory about them doing a story on girls sold into the sex trade is correct?

don't you understand that sentence is a farce! that won't see 1 day in those prison camps , the bigger picture here will be what obama gives up ....let's see what happens , remember the 90's clinton , richardson , et al and what they gave up to North Korea

Lori no way are they going to do any hard time. I'm not sticking up for N.Korea just making the point these girls f'd up and now have put us in this situation of being forced to bargain with the little dictator in women's sunglasses. If they in fact N Korea crossed the border and kidnapped them I think the cameraman and guide who escaped would be doing daily stories from the place they were taken from. Also I don't think China and NKorea have a 'open border policy' where troops from either side can cross but I could be wrong. And then to know they worked for Al Gore's company? Hopefully he gets charged for any costs the US will incure to secure their release.
