How bout that coonass!!! We got the best jocks hands down no contest here in Louisiana!!!! Good things happen to good people. And I am not gonna lie, when he was choked up and said he wished his dad was here to see what he made of his life, I cried. Louisiana Loves Ya Calvin!!!

That has to be one of the best rides in derby history. Any other jock goes 10 wide but Borel knows the track better than any jockey there. No sweat!

Calvin didn't have much pressure. If he gets blocked while skimming the rail, no big deal, because hardly anyone gave his horse a shot.

I don't think I've laughed so hard in a long time, listening to Calvin whoop it up after the race. That reaction was spectacular, especially after watching him pull another Street Sense up the rail. God bless you, Calvin Borel. I never in a million years thought I'd hear Mine That Bird announced as the horse that was zooming up the rail but it got my attention as it started to happen and I told my dad 'whoever that horse is, watch that move from the back, they'll be talking about it tomorrow.'

I think this has been said and will be said over and over...but when Durkin couldn't make out the silks in the stretch on who the horse was, you just had to know that was Mine That Bird with Borel's signature move.

agreed Durkin didn't see him at all... It was like he expected POTN to just run away with it.

I figured the horse might get over the finish line before Durkin saw him <g> Big congrats to the connections. Wow.

What other jock has the Oaks - Derby double?

What fun! I had two friends over who really didn't want to watch the race because of what happened last year. They finally decided to come over, had a blast watching the race and can't wait for the Preakness. Hooray for the little guys making good!

Mine That Bird is a gelding, right? No one tell Rachel Alexandra's owner.

Either Borel is smarter than all the other riders or he is less afraid. Why doesn't anyone else seem enamored with saving ground? And as for all the trainers who insist their horses stay wide to stay out of trouble, they could take a page from Borel's thinking.

yeah, but how often do you see a horse get the door slammed shut on him down on the rail? when it works, you look like a genius. when it doesn't, you get hounded for trying it.
