They do in big cities where the bad guys have them ie the LA bank robbers wearing body armour. Not saying every cop or car needs them but they should be available for that needed occassion. First time I ever saw cops with fully auto rifles was vegas airport. Then Belmont Gold Cup Day and again Belmont (Belmont Day) then the LI RR so seems pretty common place in the big apple. Very intimidating!!

you and one other are the only two to guess... and he got it right. it doesn't seem anyone else really wants to think about all that-or maybe my post was too long. a lot of folks want to suppose there are old west style gunfights going on in big cities every day, which if far from the truth. but, shootings get the headlines, so the perception is that it's a huge problem-when in fact, most folks have more to fear from the family dog than they do from a crook with a gun.

my dad cannot stand cop shows, he says they're all completely unrealistic. and bodies flying backwards from a shot from a .38, patently false.
