Are they even holding the Mass Cap this year? They shut it down last year, IIRC.

What year was it - 2004 maybe - where there was that three way stretch duel in the Mass Cap betwixt Funny Cide, Offlee Wild, and some long shot? Offlee Wild won by a head or so, I think. Gotta love those Wild Agains.

I love any race the Funny Cide runs in. The New Yorkers will also drop some cash on him to win and he never does. Keeps the odds of a horse that I love as an underlay. Got to love those New Yorkers when it comes to Funny Cide.

Cut him some slack...why should I? The horse was absolutely perfect and wonderful for a 3 month period in 2003. I mean he was a joy to watch run. I loved him in the Derby and loved him even more in the Preakness. I got smart and bet him to win in the Preakness. But since then he has been dreadful. Yeah Yeah, he still makes money and still is racing and that is awesome. And I love when he races in New York. New Yorkers will bet him down to 2-1 or lower. Therefore giving me square odds on the horse that I like. Oh, I am not from Ohio. I am from Indiana. And he has done better than any Indiana bred I know of

Here's the thing, euro, Funny Cide is a six year old gelding. Every horse he competed against as a 3YO is retired now (Buddy Gil excepted, of course). He's run well beyond what the normal racing life of a top stakes horse is. Cut him some slack.

They are indeed, wouldn't be totally surprised if it was the last one either. They have been shutting it down on and off since 2000. Old Suffolk just isnt cutting it anymore. The track needs slots money and it was defeated in this years legislative session.

There is a little hope however, as all three Democrats running for Governor are for expanded gaming to help subsudize towns, schools, etc. So, they may get a chance with a Democrat as Governor.

Lava Man and The Tin Man are still getting it done.

Your using 2 examples of horses that come around once or twice a decade these days. Back before all these "necessary medications" and before breeding became king, horses actually stuck around for a very long time and competed at very high levels, well into their 7,8 and 9 year old seasons.

Your slamming Funny Cide is totally unfair. Lava Man is on his way to becoming horse of the year. Tin Man just dominated a field of the best turf horses in America and their upcoming matchup will have every racing fan with a pulse on the edge of their seats. Funny Cide may not compete very well at the highest level, but kudos to the owners/trainers for keeping him on the track, even if it is for the sole reason that he lacks a pecker.

I am not slamming Funny Cide. I am saying that I love when he races because he gets bet down with no chance of winning and that causes me to get sqaure odds on the horse that I like. But Funny Cide is a three time Grade I winner so he should be compared to others who are of his claiber.

Agree with much you say here ... It is always good when quality horses stick around regardless of their anatomy . Funny needs all the help he can get, so don't take his pecker away too . He does have one, as do all geldings . The " rest " are history .

Funny Cide isnt a quality horse anymore. This is where the problem lies.

He couldn't touch Lava Man at any distance, theres speed than theres California speed, Funny Cide doesn't want any of that!!!! He likes to press, but in California those fractions are much faster than what he's used to, Lava Man would leave his gasping.

I think this is an issue of semantics . Funny Cide is not the quality horse he was in the past , but he is still stakes quality . For some, this as well is arguable, but facts is facts . I really would not mind a win Saturday, just for all the talk it would generate .

Stakes Quailty? I dont think so. I think he is state bred quality or maybe I high level optional claiming open quality.

bad enough he has no package....if he could read the horse would be committing suicide.

funny how little respect a winner gets---i mean, stakes winners are a dime a dozen.
