I'm not convinced Eight Belles was any better than Music Note or Proud Spell.
I think she was better at the time she went down. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing if she would have improved as the year went on and become a very good horse or whether she was already peaking and would have allowed the other two to catch up to (or pass) her.
