I wrote out a really long post and decided not to include it. Look at it this way... it's one last little celebration of their lives, one last little show of appreciation and respect. It can be a little hard when someone asks me to include a particular horse here.... if I've never heard of them. I never do mind. People have reasons why they don't want to post it (I guess). I'm just doing the best i can (that sounds fake and horrible. What i mean is they all deserve their names here, to be remembered that one last time. I try to remember to post those names when I come across them or when someone asks me to). So even the ones who, in life, we didn't know? It's nice to stop for a second and know that they existed anyway and that they were part of this thing we all love. Angels all. |

![]() Accident Kills Hussler's Conqueror
![]() By Peter Staples Wednesday, 8 October 2008: Talented Victorian mare Aceland Street, who once beat Horse of the Year Weekend Hussler, has died after a paddock accident while spelling in Victoria. The mare had to be put down after she impaled herself on a wooden fence post. “We are devastated about what has happened to the mare,” said her Tasmanian owner Alwyn Shaw. “It is very sad to lose any horse but especially so when it as a result of such a freak accident. “The loss is double-edged because we were looking to a prosperous stud career for Aceland Street.” Aceland Street was trained at Caulfield by Jim Mason and had won three of her 13 starts. She will be well remembered for her maiden win at Sale as Weekend Hussler finished fourth in the event when making his debut. Aceland Street was expected to be one of Shaw's foundation mares at his Aceland Stud at in Tasmania. A shoulder injury will prevent jockey Jodi Snell from representing Tasmania in the Dr le Winns Ladies Championship at Moonee Valley on Friday night. Snell, who won the annual race last year, dislocated her shoulder when she was thrown from an unraced two-year-old at John Blacker's stable last Friday. She was hoping physiotherapy would enable her to ride at Moonee Valley but she has been ruled out on medical advice. “The doctors have advised me not to resume riding for a month because it will pop back out again if I try riding,” Snell said. http://www.racingandsports.com.au/ra...asp?NID=136843 |
