Default Churchill deal steals 2010 BC from Belmont

As revealed on ATR tonight. BC reneges on handshake deal with NYRA.

The Breeders Cup Ltd. is based in Kentucky, and loses state tax breaks in 2009 if the BC isn't held again at Churchill. CD was holding them hostage for a larger cut of profit. Probably some deal.

F the BC. They think they are racing now. I would love to see NYRA go to war with them and make NY the place where the champs are decided. Like it used to be.

They should have a turf sprint festival. That'll show 'em.

Cool

The Breeder's Cup sucks!

If some think it will be better to get two straight years on "poly" & thumb thier nose to NYRA, well...............

I'll sure miss his f-ball picks (or plays) here.

So what happened to the...

"We....(Churchill).....can't make enough of a profit hosting the BC to make it worth our while!!)

.......supposedly in response to previous announcements that SA would be the site of the next 2 BS.....I mean BC "festivals"......what happened did they squeeze a few more bucks out of the event by adding 1/4 horse events??

Such a joke to screw NYRA yet again.....I hope the horsemen boycott the thing and turn it into a "Replacement BC".....ala the NFL strike season!!

Why on earth would they have any desire to do that?

I could care less about the BC with its back-to-back all-weather races for '08 & '09.

NYRA should bill its 9/27 date as the "real dirt" championships with the JCGC (Classic), Beldame (Distaff.. oops, I mean Ladies Classic ) , and Vosburgh (Sprint) as the real championship races. Heck, with the Flower Bowl (F & M Turf) and Joe Hirsch (Turf Classic), it's basically the same thing (without the turf mile and Juvy races) as the 'old' BC Day.
Either way, it's the best remaining day on the calender for dirt racing in '08.

At least they didn't decide to stay in California for a 3rd straight year.

i don't know what happened. perhaps the bc made a different deal with churchill than in the past? but a shame they couldn't just wait and host in '11, since '10 was already supposedly spoken for.

they should have left 10 alone, and given next year to churchill. there's no compelling arguement for having it at santa anita two years running.

The Breeders Cup at Churchill is much better than the BC at Belmont. Churchill fills up and has a great atmosphere. Belmont could easily be 40 degrees and freezing with the winds. Throw in a home Giants or Jets game on the Sunday and the Yankees or Mets in the World Series and the BC doesn't even get any coverage.

Um, were you there for the 2006 Breeders Cup? Coldest day ever.

I was there and it was like 50 degrees. Invasor won too.

I have been to the Breeders Cup at Belmont in 1995 and it was the most pathetic day ever. There was nobody there and it was terrible weather.

Sure, NYRA got screwed. We can argue all day about recourse, ramifications, and what should and shouldn't be done. In the end, it's just more cannibalization.

The BC is looking out for the BC and is not working with the industry. What else is new.
