I don't see how the riding title is THAT important. I'd go for the million dollar race. It's kind of strange. Garcia will give up 5 mounts in one day to ride Funny Cide in a $100,000 race, yet he won't give up mounts for a $1,000,000 race.

Still I agree that Garcia should have the freedom to do what he wants. If he wants the riding title, he should be freed of his commitment

It's not like he was riding Smooth Air or another top contender in the race.. He was on Alaazo.. Not exactly a lock to bring home the $600,000.

With that said, it didn't speak well of Garcia or his agent that they would've taken the mount for $5,000. So the riding title is really important, but for $5,000, it's not THAT important.. Sheesh, either take the mount or don't, but don't try to swindle people out of cash.

It is that important for him and his agent. The Funny Cide race is at the completely opposite end of the spectrum. Two totally different times, motivations, connections, and more.

As far as the freedom aspect, that's not the way the business works. His agent gave the connections the call. Bottom line, they are getting spun. It happens everyday. Today it just happened to the connections who are playing hardball and it happened to Garcia and his agent on a bad day.
