Who does he have to beat, Pyro, Da'Tara? Let's face it. The whole 3 year old crop as of now has been very unimpressive. When you have doubts about the horse who won 2/3rds of the triple crown, what's that say about the rest of the class?

I would say Colonel John, MIS, Visionaire, BB, have turn into nice 3yr olds and Casino Drive is 3 so who would you rate him against? what makes you an expert on saying this crop is below par? is it because all the other people say that ?

The Travers was won in a 106 Beyer and the King's Bishop was won in a 103. I wonder when the last time was that both those races were that low.

Beyers are subjective to so many factors on that particular day. CJ's beyer was the highest for the week-end action in states across country and he even bested ginger punch and others. like Iv'e always said if Beyers was that accurate we would all be rolling in the money.

Do you know what every past Travers winner would have done to Ginger Punch? The fact that there is even doubt as to whether Colonel John could beat Ginger Punch is evidence enough of how weak this 3yo crop is.

I don't ever say one horse can beat another until it happens. I was just commenting about CJ had best beyers for the week-end stakes. So that must account for something. Some good horses ran this past week-end, like I said beyers is subjected to so many factors. What those are, I'm now that sure. But he won a 1 1/4 prestigiuos race and that is all that matters. So you are saying if there is doubt IF CJ could beat Ginger Punch then the whole crop is sub-par? whose doubt is that yours? That's an opinion by you not factproven on the track.

Ginger Punch would have got eaten alive in a big field full of colts like the Travers. Of that, there is little doubt. It's one thing to beat four or five fillies and mares; another to beat a full field of colts and geldings in August.

I have my doubts about Annihilate 'Em (1973).

There were a few in there that are capable of running significantly faster, but pace and trip did them in. . .

That's my point. Those factors affect Beyers along with many others. If CJ or any horse in the race who got bumped bad break, had no room to run they all would have run a better time . That's why Beyers in one race does'nt mean the horses in that race could not post higher figures.

I think the only writer who really thinks about what he is writing is Steve Haskin. Go to the Bloodhorse and read His Question and answer blog sectionand he tells it like it is about Curlin and other issues. He is the only writer i have read who really tells it like it is. A real breathe of fresh air and unbias opinion.

I personally do not like Visionaire. Got a great setup in the Bishop. His high Beyer before that race was a pair of 98's and both came in the slop.
I drank the Big Brown Kool-Aid and was a believer, but I believe that part of his sucess is due to the Dutrow MAGIC. Was willing to give him a pass in the Belmont (due to the start/shoe, and all the other excuses). But to see him all out in the Haskell to beat a horse that ran 3rd in an opt claimer last out made me think about all the steroid talk. I thought he should have walked in that race. I think CJ is a nice horse but I have always thought of him as a POLYHORSE. I think this is the first time he cracked 100 Beyer mark. MIS could be one of these late developing 3-year olds that turn into a very good horse. He probably should have won the race, in his first time in graded company. But that brings us back to, who did he really run against?
For the record I personally like Macho Again. I thought he had a good chance in the Travers and CJ/Gomez took him right out of the race by slamming him going into the stretch.

As far as Casino Drive goes, I am not saying that he is the next coming, but I would think that you have to consider him as good as a contender/serious horse as any other 3 year old. Even if he has not beaten a G-I winner like Visionare, yet.

What about Big Brown....seems you left the best 3yr old off your list.

I am not sure what you are trying to say. If it is about beating Big Brown, I thought that I covered it in a earlier in the thread.
