![]() Scuds - the Torre Yankees from those years where great teams no question
you had figheters , cone , pettite, boggs, tino , brosius , jeter , posoda , and of course the ultimate gamer in O'neill He didn't really have to do much in 96. The team had a lead after 7 innings it was lights out with Rivera and Wetland coming in They got better in '98 and '99 , could have won it all in 97 as well but Rivera got beat by Alomar in game 4 Joe was the perfect fit for that team , he didn't need to get these guys motivated , they all fed off of o'neil and cone once those guys retired , it became a different team , it seemed to me that Joe's luck ran out when the dbacks beat him in 01. The team just didn't have the internal fire after that loss and it became harder and harder each year to win. |

![]() He is o.k. tactically. Most of his decisions are good ones. Talented people aren't performing to their capability when he is in charge. That's their division rival, and they've scored 2 runs total in the 1st two games of the series against them. This is what took place when he managed the Yanks in the playoffs the last 6-7 years. The teams don't perform well offensively against good pitching. This is the fact. He has had the talent.

I think many observers underestimate how much impact Zim had on those teams. The Yankees won only one playoff series since he left if im not mistaken. Zim was the tactician of the two. |
