RIP Bobby...one of my true childhood heroes. That game he played against Baltimore in 1979 after delivering Thurman Munson's eulogy was unforgettable

One of my childhood brushes with greatness was meeting Bobby during a rain delay at Wrigley. I was standing underneath the stands down the left field line and I was leaning against a door, suddenly the door flew open and out pops Bobby Murcer in his stirrups, shorts and blue sleeved undershirt. I nearly fell over, he asked if I was okay, shook my hand and moved on and into another door before I knew what hit me.

I also got to meet Ernie Banks on the same day, he just wandered into our section and people swarmed him for autographs. It was an actual scheduled double header with my favorite team at the time, the Astros, pretty cool day for a 14 year old.

RIP
