Paralyzed Throat in humans would normally refer to a paralyzed vocal chord which is the doorway to the lungs or trachea. If the cords do not open (abduct) when needed the horse cannot increase his ventilation or breathe faster to eliminate CO2 when running.....all of that is built on the supposition that horses and humans have similar anatomy which probably should be commented by a real vet which I am certainly not...

Causes 1) trauma 2) lack of blood supply or ischemia 3) thyroid disease or polyps in humans again of course.
