I think Ichabad Crane will also be running, Steve- at least that's what I've read.

Well, if Big Truck ( another NY Bred ) was 28:1 in the Derby, Icabad should be even money.

Just remember, I touted him in the Albany first.

I like Big Truck... and I have NO idea who would have bet him at 28-1 in the Derby. Seriously.

It's the Giacomo factor. Casual fans saw 50-1 in the morning line, and decided they were betting on him before they got to the track.

Also, the name is funny. Like with Imawidlandcrazyguy last year.

Very true. The average person loves to bet on the longest price they see, so that they can regale their racing friends until the day they die with stories of them betting on "the longshot" (as if there's only one) and it winning. God, I hate those people.

Just saw that....West Point changes their mind every 5 minutes...Last night it was The Preakness....Guess they didn't want a second or third place check.

Did I tell you about the time I had Vision and Verse over Lemon Drop Kid but I just bet Sarava flat in the Belmont. Oh and Volponi in the BC Classic. I was so proud of myself then everyone at my table shows me their bets. Half of them hit the trifecta

and...

Sure, I can buy that argument for a point or two, maybe even four or five. But seriously, HALF of what he legitimately should have been? The Derby win pool is something like $60-70 million, which means there was about a MILLION DOLLARS bet on a "name" if that's the case.

It was because of the Big Truck/Big Brown confusion. . .

That's what I think. Nothing else makes sense.

Am I the only one in the world that thinks Behindatthebar warrants taking a look at?

We all know BB had a dominant performance at the Derby, but we all also know he has bad feet, has run 4 lifetime races, and obviously never run twice in two weeks.

For lower exotics yes. I think he is better than many people think. However I don't see him as a win candidate here.

I sorta agree with Dutrow. As mentioned in the piece Harlem Rocker could still make the Plate after the Preakness. As Alydeed who finished 2nd in the Preakness did. It's a big jump up from the Withers but he ran by a good horse loose on the lead pretty nonchalantly. It would atleast give the race much needed drama.

In Daily Racing Form, BIG BROWN'S trainer Rick Dutrow was discussing the May 17 Preakness..

Dutrow already is sizing up the prospective opposition for the 1 3/16-mile race. He said "Pletcher's white horse" - Harlem Rocker, the Withers Stakes winner trained by Todd Pletcher - is the only one that concerns him, but otherwise, a horse to upset Big Brown "is going to have to be a really good one."

HARLEM ROCKER is 80% owned by Stronach Stables and 20% by Adena Racing Venture II, the 2nd of 3 syndicate packages of 6 horses offered by Adena Springs.
According to Adena, there are no Canadian owners in the 20% but there sure a lot of fellow bloggers out there who have little pieces of the grey colt.

If Harlem Rocker passes up the Plate Trial, that race will surely be wide open (the Marine Stakes for 3yo's, open company is up next but could have an American-bred winner).
Then, if the Rocker comes for the June 22 Plate after his Preakness attempt, it will make the Plate quite intriguing.

I bet the Big Truck-Big Brown exacta was about $50 bucks both ways.

Seriously, on FLA derby day at the track I over heard 2 guys discussing that BB and BT had to be related... And they were dead serious. I didn't know if I wanted to thank them for coming to the track or slap them.

I'm guessing both wasn't an option?
