done little wrong - yes
consistent - yes
chances of wearing the roses - not good imo. chasing Big Brown I think will be his undoing.

I like this horse but think that a minor placing would be his ceiling as they say. with a dream trip he might be this years Sedgefield.

not the worst play having a few bucks on him at long odds, because I think he will be around for at least 8 furlongs.

That's for sure.. A good-looking colt if I've ever seen one.

Then again, Sedgefield is a full brother to the '07 champion turf horse, who did his best work going a mile and a quarter or farther. Unfortunately, Gayego doesn't have that stamina blood- not that he couldn't find a way to go a mile and a quarter, I just don't see it.

look at the ones getting the most attention-none seem to scream 10f when you look at the pedigree. does anyone really think big brown is a 10f horse?

i'll put up gayego before most of the others.

Actually he's a turfer, but yes... Nureyev on the bottom gives some pretty stout distance ability. And watching his races, he finishes STRONG.

Oh, from a horse perspective, I really like him. He just brings it, every time, any surface, anywhere. Just don't think this is his ballgame, and will probably be my toughest toss.
Horses like Pyro who got drowned as soon as he was "uncomfortable on the surface" don't do it for me.

wait, so big brown gets stamina from nuryev, but gayego doesn't from lost code? how do you figure that?
and i'm thinking big brown will suffer as he's by boundary, a sire of sprinters.

Lost Code's top earners have all been sprinter/miler types (Kalookan Queen, etc.)... despite the fact that he was best at a mile and an eighth.

I fear Gayego because I think he's good and I'm not using him because I do think he stops after 9f.

Nureyev AWD - 8.44 furlongs
Lost Code AWD - 6.32 furlongs

Lost Code has BY FAR the lowest AWD of any damsire in the race.. Where do you get that he's some kinda great stamina influence?

Tiznow over Turkoman is 10f breeding. (That's Colonel John, by the way.)

i guess i was going by his races won/placed.

my whole point is that it really doesn't matter anyway. so many winners for years now are horses who supposedly can't get the distance.

agreed - maybe it's my ignorance, but I just don't think hardly any horse is bred for stamina anymore, it's all about speed, speed, speed, and more speed.
which can lead to muddled classic contests.
i don't think gayego is a 'need to burn it up on the lead' type, but rather a horse with a high cruising gear. if he can stay the distance he's an easy place.

welll, it's hard to tell any more who has what. not many 10f races any more, so they are slim pickings in a horses resume'. but i'd think gayego would stack up to big brown pedigree-wise. really, at this point, pedigree doesn't mean much-everyone is pushing for sprinter/milers-you just need to have a horse who can outgasp the others for that last furlong or so.
the bigger question will become who can run on what surface on any given race day.

If you take a look at Gayego he looks more like Lost Code that comes from the bottom. He will get the 1 1/4 I just hope it in front of the others.

but we're talking about a 10 furlong race aren't we?
wasn't meaning to compare the horses per se, just that I think Gayego would need that kind of trip to be a factor.
