She'd fit in well at All Barn.

Virginia Tech is a good vet school, and my dad lives in VA. We usually send our horses to VA Tech because NC State is so much more expensive. I think NC State is the best ranked vet college of the three (UGA, VA Tech, NC State) if I am not mistaken. Based on the requirements to get in to NC State, I'm sure that is the case. Colorado State is the best vet college in the country, but I don't want to go all the way out there. I'm not sure of the vet school requirements though for VA Tech. I have looked at both VA Tech and Cornell before, but I would have to look them up again. I would rather go to a college that I have family or friends nearby. UGA, NC State, and VA Tech would be good, but no matter which way I go, I would have to take a year off either to establish in-state residency or meet requirements. I know that you are eligible for in-state tuition at UGA if you live in GA for a year. Not sure about Virginia. It would be funny if I ended up at NC State because UNC and Duke students really pick on them. We even have T-shirts...haha. I would fit in fine though with my accent.

What is wrong with Auburn?

That took bravery to type that. Auburn's vet school is top notch.
I had the opportunity to meet one of Texas A&M's top professors a couple of years ago. He headed up a stem cell procedure that we tried on a yearling filly that, I'm happy to say, has been super successful. My primary vet is an A&M grad (love him) and even though I'm not a native Texan, the vets I've known through the years that I thought were really sharp have been A&M grads.

Does anyone know the national rankings for veterinary colleges? I can't find them anywhere on the net...

Thanks for mentioning Auburn. That looks like a valid option as well. It looks like I don't have to take any extra courses that I won't already have to get in.

Nevermind, don't like the tuition at all nor does it have a DVM/PhD program.

Interesting.
In the past, whenever I am making a major life decision, I haven't gone into the esoteric room of a horse racing message board for advice.
Of course, most of my major life decisions aren't fictional ones that I concocted simply because I am delusional....so I guess that might be the reason.

If you want to be a vet, forget the PhD and just get the DVM. If you want to do research, then get a PhD later but even with a DVM you can probably do all the research you want.

I just wanted to see what others would do in my situation. Others that are older and more experienced in college matters than me. Of course, coming to a final decision requires a long, thoroughly thought-out process, talking to college advisors, and advice from close friends and family members. It is certainly not a decision based solely upon advice from a message board, although, I think I received some good advice and a little bit of information about other veterinary colleges that I didn't even know existed.

Thanks ya'll for those of you that helped.

the only accurate rankings are compiled every year by US news and world report, you can buy them on their website.

and nearly every year the top schools are co state and uc davis

One of my good friends was going to go to Colorado State, but she decided to go to NC State instead. NC State is ranked 4th in the country, which isn't bad. I don't want to go all the way out west either, so I don't blame her for sticking close to the family and paying the in-state tuition.

whatever...you asked a question.... albeit a rather stupid one for anyone who knows how to google "vet school rankings"....and I gave you an answer.
since this is about the 50th career announcement you have made since joining the site you'll have to forgive me if I just don't give a sh*t.

At the end of the day I really don't give a crap at how prestigious a college is or isn't. Are you good at what you do? Can you get the job done right?
When I'm interviewing teachers I could care less about Phi-beta whatever or being board certified. Can you do the job?? So KRIM can you do the job?
You are not a high schooler, so this Tar heel forever stuff is a waste of words. Do what makes the most sense and what makes you feel more comfortable. That's my two cents.

i agree with the above. we're lsu fans, my daughter is going to a school in arkansas. you don't make life-changing decisions based on mascots or boyfriends. i'd suggest ditching the boyfriend anyway.
