They have tried it with Adriano a couple times, that horse won't crack the top 10 in the Derby but they are FORCING IT.

They don't have to force Polinus into this, instead they could take their time. It is such a novel idea to try and be patient with a good horse.

It isn't like this horse is seasoned and has 8 races under his belt. SA Derby will be his 5th race I think.

Everyone's dream is to get to the Derby, this I understand, but they could easily win some races with this guy and put the money they win from this horse, into some yearlings and develop their Derby horse, instead of potentially ruining this horse.

But haven't they already taken their time with Polonius? Didn't he break his maiden way back in July of last year and then didn't show up again until last month?

Doesn't that suggest that he has physical issues? If he's in form at the present, don't they have to take their shot now as opposed to a meticulously progressive campaign of turf races that culminates in a facile win in the Secretariat in August?

Maybe we can get Ron Burgundy to investigate and shed some light on this.

It would be silly to pass up the Santa Anita Fake Dirt Derby with a good turf horse. This one set a relaxed pace last out and finished strong, so he doesn't appear to be the tough to rate type that falter on synthetics.
