They look a lot like that right now. Arod or Jeter gets hurt, the old guys continue to regress, one of the young pitchers doesnt make the season (which is almost a certainty)...and you are looking at third place. They will be in a better spot next year when the young pitchers have another year under their belts, I believe Giambi, Damon, Petitte and Mussina's contracts are up (maybe Matsui too) which should give them lots of capital to work with. They will need to find a left fielder, 1st baseman, catcher and some established starters and a set up guy. It is simply unreasonable to protect the young guys arms then have them throw 200 innings this year. They need bounce back years from older, regressing players which is not likely, Posada is almost a guarantee to bounce from a career year, Arod will be hard pressed to repeat his year, Melky has to improve and the bullpen has to keep from imploding. And thats without even mentioning that Rivera was not nearly as dominant last year as he had been.

With that said....who is better at this point, the Mets or Yankees?
