You're right when you say that a horse must have a winning attitude...but, sometimes, a horse is running with horses thar are simply too good for him...and no matter how big is his desire to win, he won't be able to deal with them...it's a matter of genetics.

Moreover....a filly with 3 wins in 5 starts costs how much?? Does her owner want to sell her? It's impossible to find a horse with this race record for sale at a good price...and horses with not that good race record can have a winning attitude when they face opponents of his category...he doesn't need to win to show a winning attitude....sometimes he can fight hard for a 4th place...against classier horses...

That's what I think...You'll (maybe) never find a horse for claim for $2,000 with 3 wins in 5 starts and with a winning attitude...But you can search for a horse that has a winning attitude (that's extremely important, I agree with you) and is simply facing horses far better than him...and you claim him and put him in a weaker race.
Yeah,I think it's better to get a piece of something you know will try hard as they can(even when they are tired.)Last thing I want is some horse that I want to win (more than they want to win) I would rather put up 10k for a 5th of a 50k horse, than own my own 10k horse. In general, don't buy thoroughbreds. They get injured, but keep eating.Who you think is paying for them to eat when you see those breaks in training? I am just saying that if there was ever one I would spend money on,then it's that filly right there.Of course ,she could get injured, and then would look like any other degenerate filly.

I would have scratched too and re-enter in a higher class too once you announced to the world your plans to claim.

If the owner of this horse did that by reading this board I promise I'll cut my both legs off.

You can be pretty sure he don't even know what Dee Tee is...And I wonīt be surprised if I am the only brazilian on this board.

Now I can almost hear a song coming on.What's that sound? It's like the chorus from a Fiddler on the Roof Song, but the words are a lil different(same enthusiasm though.)

I got your point...and you're right...its better to own 10% of a good horse than 100% of a bad one...and I agree with you.

Here in Brazil we don't have those partnerships you have in the US (West Point Thoroughbreds, Adena Venture, Team Valor, etc.)...so we have to find ourselves a way to get 100% of a horse that is being raced badly (I mean with horses far better than him) and has potential to race well against less talented horses...

Here we have private partnerships...but those are more for yearlings...which are much more expensive and spent one year in training before start racing...and these private partnerships are among those wealthy families, you know?...those that can afford US$100k in a single horse

Even those partnerships that you have in the US are for unproven horses...when a horse has shown his potential, costs are prohibitive...there is not much upside i think. To have upside you must find a horse that is not on the spotlight yet...
