That's funny.....I just made a similar joke to someone. Figured it was a power surge from all the slot machines.

There's no reason they can't run the place on the obvious alternative fuel source......Frank's Energy Drink. Light bulbs will be exploding on the tote board.

On a handicapping note, did the 36-1 winner of the race - Polar Star - fit what Andy Beyer referred to as a "Z pattern" in his book "Picking Winners"? I bet the place horse but in looking back at what I may have missed in the winner's PP lines, I note a distinct change in race tactics in his two prior (and only) starts on the grass. He'd shown early foot in his start two back (and also in several starts on dirt) but in his last race was taken back off the pace and raced a bit through the stretch, passing a few horses. Root went back to Leyva today, his go-to-rider - and Polar Star comes from well out of it to get the $. Thoughts??

No....that horse didn't fit the Z pattern. Honestly, not even close.

The Z pattern is when a horse loses somewhat significant ground after the first call only to rerally. That horse pretty much lost ground in all of its races. Last time it started off slowly and pretty much held it's position.

thanks. I guess Polar Star's win is more accurately attributable to modest class relief in addition to having a bit more stamina than the others in one very weak field.

I was just attributing it to you and me betting the second horse.
