I'll use the Massey Ratings as an example cause they have past years available but the case holds up with any computer ratings out there, and even though computer rankings are often misunderstood they remain the only unbiased way to compare conferences.

This year they are the #1 conference

Now let's compare them to the year when Auburn went undefeated and I disagreed with anyone claiming that it was unfair for an SEC team to do undefeated and not make the National Championship game. And guess what, the SEC sucked that year, they were the #5 conference:
