making a deal with the devil here. i cannot believe they would sign with a guy demanding 20%. that is so outrageous. they're leaping from the frying pan directly into the fire.

If they're so hard up for 500k I'm sure a bank will loan them that amount at a much better rate than 20%.

yeah, you would think so...but the guild is pretty bad off after years of mismanagement. no telling what the bottom line looks like.

i think we're witnessing the death of the jockeys guild. seems some places (philly park for one) are taking care of themselves, as the guild seems unwilling/unable.

At this point the death of the guild might be a good idea for all involved.

the guild may live until.... Gary Birzers lawsuit! Who's going to foot that... the guild could live for another 10years and not be able to pay Birzer! Once Gary wins (which to me is a no brainer) other jocks could follow.. I believe there are at least 3 more jocks with life shattering injuries!

It's just sad that the very organization you think is protecting you is the one you have to eventually sue for your survival. Gary should be able to sue Gertmenian directly but we all know that can't happen.

Now Manley and JJ(Jesse Jackson) will use a guy like Gary Birzer as a pawn in their negotiations. It's a damm shame. JV needs to wake up. Dave Stevenson, where are you? We need you.

also, originally the deal was for 5%--now he wants the 20...now 5 is hard to beat, but 20?!
