![]() Somer, I read on some Greyhound sites that some of them do require housetraining and (very interesting) training to go up and down stairs. I guess it varies dog to dog?
Which is not to knock your post-- I am so envious that you adopt racing Greyhounds that I can't begin to articulate it! I adore them. When my husband and I finally live in a place that permits pets we decided we'll adopt one racing greyhound (for me) and one mutt (for him). That's so great that you've given a home to some of these retired racers. Three cheers for Somer! |

![]() What's the deal with the glass doors? I've never had a dog that had trouble with that.Somer,do you have any guesses at what % of racehorses, and grey hounds live out their lives until a death by natural causes?

No, but believe me, it's a disgrace! The % is much higher for horses, up until the greyhound rescue groups really got in gear about 10-15 years ago, few greyhounds survived unless used for breeding. It's all economics...dogs are much cheaper to breed, train etc...while horses have many uses after racing (trail, eventing, jumping etc), the dogs can only be used as pets and the "market" is limited. I support horse racing obviously but I stand with my PETA brothern regarding Greyhound Racing...it should be banned as it's no better than dog and rooster fighting imo!
