I mean we are staying at The Holiday Inn and it is almost $350 a night. That is insane and it has drove much of annual Saratoga contigent numbers way down. We have been doing this trip from Boston for the past 10 years and we used to fill up 5 rooms no problem. Now we are lucky if we can fill two this year. And everyone who has bailed all have cited the same reason. It's just way to expensive.
I come up from Boston most weekends. Just FYI, some still cheap-yet-closer places are Cocca's on rte 9 (was abt $100 a night last summer, just down the road from that restaurant Ripe Tomato) and the McGregor, about 10 minutes up route 9. I expect the Holiday Inn will be a step up in class from those, but when you're looking for a deal...

Yeah I've been lobbying for something like that for a few years now. When we started this trip Holiday Inn used to only be $225 and that wasn't too bad. But the core people of the group still want to keep staying at the HI because it does have the best location out any hotel, to the track and downtown with the two pools
And back in the day it didn't matter soo much because we would cram 5 people in the rooms but now that everyone is getting a little older and have wives and such, privacy is becoming an issue and people don't want to spend that much on a room anymore.

But yeah I hear ya, if you don't mind driving a bit you can stil find some deals. Hell I would love to go camping the State Park and do it that way.

Priceline.com. Name your price for Albany Airport area. 15-20 minutes from the track. $35-40, max. I do it just about every Saturday night during the season...

I booked early (like last Oct) - season ticket holder at Sara for 20+ years..now live in Ca...travel back for Travers week.

Marriott Courtyard Saratoga $160/nt..I see now the rooms are like $450..maybe I should sell and take the profit? then I can parlay my profit into much bigger losses at the track!

Some of the Hotel in Clifton Park are OK - like the Hampton & comfort suites - good location ..probably booked by now.
