you're right!

too often it seems a celeb is actually treated more harshly by members of the system. they want so hard to make it seem that they don't want to treat a star differently, but end up doing exactly that, by being over the top! but then...you have spector, on trial for murder, and not in jail during the trial. would you, or i, be home while on trial in that case? no.

The truth of the matter is that, celebrity or not, it's rare to be treated with absolute fairness by the criminal justice system. It depends on who you are and who's your attorney and who's the prosecutor and what judge you happen to end up in front of. Things even out, but only in the abstract. Case by case, someone's always getting treated too harsh or too leniently. Justice is surely not blind. The best you can hope for is that she's squinting a bit when you're on the dock.

I agree...the key is equal treatment. The rich will always have the advantage of being able to afford better lawyers with more resources (think OJ) and if the case is plastered all over the news, good lawyers will work for free...don't know how to get around that but it's not the judge's role to "punish" or "set examples" based on socio-economic status or race.

There are many "cracks" in our judicial system. Adding to the mess are the recent(5yrs) sentencing guidelines that handcuff all parties in a case. Somer: you still haven't read Grishams' The Innocent Man yet, have you??

"The system" is not 100 percent consistent. Can anyone speak to this judges actions in the past? I'm sure this isn't the most strict ruling ever given in a case like this, and I'm sure it's not the most lenient either. Either way, I don't really care...she got what she deserved & it's not the judge who was out there driving under the influence & endangering lives...so lets not put the spotlight on him....some people are just unbelievable! Let's put the judge on trial!! LOL!

921: wasn't doing that, buddy! Just trying to share some thoughts. My 9yr old daughter and some kids at a school lit some leaves on fire, the older kids blamed my daughter...and the DA charged her with a Felony..Endangering the Forests, or some such nonsense. It ended up costing me 1G to make restitution for other kids damage. It was the whole DA overkill that really pissed me off.

What thread are you reading?? Certainly I have NEVER blamed the judge for Paris' behavior...she and she alone is responsible for what she does...what I and many others are saying is that this judge imposed a sentence far harsher than what Jane Sixpack would normally get, then he got into an ego-induced "pissing contest" with the sheriff using Ms Hilton as a pawn forcing him to send a marked car to bring her to court (after it was originally stated that she could attend the hearing via telephone) in handcuffs. Once there, he refused to consider any information relating to the Sheriff's decision to release her to house arrest even though it was known that there was a medical condition involved, hiding behind a legal issue when he could have easily gained access to the info BEFORE making a decision. And oh yeah, according to reports, after sending her back to jail, the judge immediately left the courtroom to attend church where he received a standing ovation! Yeah, I think the judge has questions to answer!
