That was a hell of a race.
About as good as it gets.

Curlin did it the hard way.
No crying, no nothing, the right animal won.

SS's connections made no excuses. They had a clean trip, just weren't good enough today. Hopefully these 2 can stick around long enough to build a rivalry... and I'm not talking about in the breeding shed.

That's BS. This had nothing to do with Street Sense's quality. Just say his own bad habits beat him but don't go trying to say he didn't have enough talent to win. And clean trip? He had a little issue earlier in the race or did you miss that? Not a huge problem but momentum wasn't unimpeded. As far as the stretch and Curlin, both of them hung but when they hung is what mattered. Curlin did but had time to rebreak when Street Sense went by. SS hung and Curlin didn't go by til it was too late for SS to go again. Not to say Curlin's not a fantastic horse but SS beat himself. Blast.

They both ran terrific. End of story. It was a head bob. They are the 2 best 3yr olds. Let's hope they are around for their 5 year old season. A great race to watch.

The track was fast for sure, but it was a legit time....Flying First Class going back in Cargo after that race.

Classic line. Hell, I'd say even that is too good for him. Greyhound anyone?

Great race. Great win for Curlin.

Would have rather seen Calvin not turn around in shock in the final jump. God that annoyed me.

Finish.

But take nothing away from Curlin. Passes and then comes back. Just awesome.

Couldn't say it any better. It was a true run race, unlike most Ky Derbies. Hats off to the connections of the top 3 finishers for having there horses ready to run back in 2 weeks. I doubt all 3 will come back for the Belmont, but we'll see.

Excellent race to watch.
I didn't watch the '89 Preakness live. So I have to compare this one to the '97 Preakness finish.
Same top 3 as Derby. Now some people should consider laying off Pletcher, since no one else has a 3yo to crack these three either.
Agreed on the head turn. In a head bob race, that could have meant the world.

Wagering wise I would not have had it either way, as I tossed HS. But I keep rewinding the DVR and that turnaround is killing me.

One one hand, a showdown in the Belmont would be a great headliner.

On the other, I'm openly rooting for a Triple Crown Winner.

Curlin was amazing. I think Borel messed up. Thats all I got.

Great run by Curlin, especially after stumbling after the start. I personally thought he was a toss this race. I give him all the credit in the world. I look foward to watching him race in the future. As far as SS, you can not take anything away from him. He ran very well again. Missed going to Belmont by a nose. Was he moved early? Not sure, but he was beat by a very good horse.

First Merlinsky,
You're talkin like a bridge-jumper. Sorry you singled SS on top.

I was just sayin SS wasn't good enough TODAY (go back and read it, it's clearly what it says). 2nd, both Nafzger and Borel in interviews after the races said they had no excuses. 3rd, comin around the final turn neither were blocked and neither were extremely wide. They had clean runs going into the stretch (and down the stretch). Whether SS got lazy or not, he got beat TODAY.

I'm not branding one better than the other for the rest of their careers. Hopefully they both go to Belmont, or run later in the summer for many many re-matches to come. Let's hope greedy ownership doesn't send them to the shed before the BC. Just gimme that for both please...

I was at Pimlico and had a nice view from the apron...Street Sense has this race won and as mentioned above, has no excuses but those of his own doing. After the race I wondered if this gazing at the crowd was such an issue, why not throw a shade on his inside eye? Splitting hairs, but something I am curious about.

Give credit to the winner, you almost never see a horse get passed in the stretch (and somewhat convincingly) and then see them surge back to win. SS had a bit to do with it, but Curlin was better on the day.

SS got lucky in the Derby. He had a dream trip while Curlin had a nightmare ride.

Street Sense had nothing left.

Curlin didn't hang -- he motored by and tied the Preakness record. A better jock and he would have been the Derby champ too.

Ill have to second that. Too many horses and too much to overcome that had nothing to do with Albarado.

I have a feeling I am going to regret asking this, but what is a "troll"?
